IGS Indian Chapter Session
Organizer: Indian Chapter of IGS

The case studies have applications in high embankments, reinforced soil walls, embankment over landfill slurry, canals distressed due to presence of swelling soils etc. In all these applications the common chord is the various ground improvement techniques adopted by using geogrids, geocells and reinforced soil systems for the fulfillment of the structural and sustainable performance under varying conditions. This session deliberates how simple geotechnical and geosynthetic concepts and products have been successfully implemented under different conditions, over last two decades in India.

  1. 1.Construction of embankments and retaining walls on black cotton soil deposits using geosynthetics (G. Venkatappa Rao)
  2. 2.Experiences gained from expansion of storage capacity of a lined pond at Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rajagopal Karpurapu)
  3. 3.Geosynthetics in irrigation canals in swelling soils of Gujarat, India : a case study (Vivek P. Kapadia)
  4. 4.Geosynthetic reinforcement in distressed canal embankment in Gujarat, India : a case study (Vivek P. Kapadia)
  5. 5.Reinforced soil wall for Monsoon Palace, Aamby Valley (Saurabh Vyas)
